I think the MAF is going bad on my car. I assume it is the original stock one. Should I just go with a stock replacement, or maybe get a performance one?

Are you getting a check engine light? any codes? like roley said you should clean it first before replacing it, it may just be a little dirty, let us know and good luck.

About a week ago, the service engine light came on, so I check the oil thinking it is low. It is by a quart, so I replace it, the Light goes off. About 20 minutes later the light comes back on and I go dammit. I get the oil changed on Thursday, and my mechanic checks the light, says it may be the MAF if the light comes back on. They clear the codes, they try and make the light come back on, nothing. So I get my car back and drive for a about a mile and the service engine light comes back on. So I am assuming the MAF is the problem. Several questions. Seeing as how this is my only mode of transportation, how long before it does irreparable damage to the engine and how hard is it to change this? Where is it located? If it requires getting underneath, I am just going to take it to my mechanic and have him fix it.

If you're sure that's the problem I would replace it ASAP, it is located between the air filter and the intake elbow, it should cost you around $120 to $160 bucks for an aftermarket rebuild, depends where you get it from and it should be a piece of cake two screws and maybe 5 to 10 minutes, you should try doing it yourself its easy.

Wow, I am glad I read up on the MAF for LS Engines. I thought Roley was kidding when he said to use a MAF cleaner (kinda like Blinker Fluid), I take it you can buy this stuff from any autoparts store.
